About Dannie Volek
Dannie Volek
M.Ed., LPC-S
I have a combination of 26 years of counseling experience as a school counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor. I provide counseling services for adults, adolescents, and couples. Additional training in positive approaches to parenting, cognitive behavior therapy, pre-marital and marital counseling, and anger resolution help provide a broad range of counseling tools. Biblical principles play an important role in my life and can be easily incorporated into the therapy if clients
desire.
As we encounter people along our journey in life we have an opportunity to establish relationships that impact our lives. The relationship between a client and therapist is a very important element in the counseling process. I believe in meeting people where they are, not judging the past nor directing the future, but rather helping facilitate the desired goals for change.
My wife, Anita, and I are celebrating thirty-seven years of a fulfilling marriage. We have the privilege and responsibility of rearing four wonderful children.

What to Expect from Therapy
Coming to therapy is a big decision. Individuals come to therapy for personal, marriage, and family issues. Therapy works because of the relationship between the client and therapist. The therapist will help you achieve insight by showing you roadblocks holding you back, and thinking errors keeping you stuck. Whether you are coming to therapy for yourself, your marriage, or a family member, you will get the most out of your time and money if you commit to work both during your sessions and on your own. Take time to make small changes and talk to your therapist if you are not getting the results you want. While there are no guarantees, therapy often leads to better relationships, solutions to specific problems, and significant reductions in feelings of distress.

Pre-Engagement Counseling
Before you pop THE question or before you say, “Yes” to THE question, get some advice on whether it’s a good decision to marry each other. Over 50% of all marriages fail and often people say they wish they had picked more wisely. Do you ever worry about ending up like some other couples you know? My view of marriage is centered on Biblical principles and therefore the life long commitments made in a marriage are intended to be taken seriously. Deciding to marry is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. You can’t afford to just make this decision with your heart. A decision made with both your head and your heart is more likely to lead to a happy, healthy marriage. You will begin by taking the PREPARE/ENRICH online assessment to identify your current strengths and growth areas as a couple. You will receive a customized report showing the results of your assessment. Then we will meet together for five to six sessions to review the results of the assessment and to learn important relationship skills in a comfortable, relaxed and even fun way.
As a couple you will:
-Identify your strengths and build new ones
-Strengthen your communication skills
-Uncover stressful areas and resolve conflicts
-Explore your families of origin
-Comfortably discuss financial issues
-Establish personal, couple, and family goals
-Understand and appreciate personality differences
Pre-Maritial Counseling
My view of marriage is centered on Biblical principles and therefore the life long commitments made in a marriage are intended to be taken seriously. Getting married is easy. Staying married takes planning, work, and knowledge. The purpose of premarital counseling is to identify your strengths as a couple, improve the skills you already have and develop new skills that will take you through all the years of your lives together. Pre-marital counseling isn’t intended to be a screening process to determine whether you and your betrothed are a good match. You’ve already made the decision to marry. Research in the last couple of decades has shown that couples who get the information and help when they don’t need it fare better than those who don’t.

Marriage Counseling
The main focus of marriage counseling through Cross Point Counseling is that your marriage is worth saving. My view of marriage is centered on Biblical principles and therefore the life long commitments made in a marriage are intended to be taken seriously. While getting married may be easy, staying married takes planning, work, and knowledge. Most couples struggle with some problems in their relationships at some point. Oftentimes they are able to work through them, but sometimes they need outside help to manage their differences. The goals of marriage counseling are to identify the issues and to put into place a realistic plan to restore a healthy and rewarding relationship. Part of this process may involve using the PREPARE/ENRICH assessment tool.
Through marriage counseling you will:
-Identify your strengths and build new ones
-Strengthen your communication skills
-Uncover stressful areas and resolve conflicts
-Comfortably discuss financial issues
-Establish personal, couple, and family goals
-Understand and appreciate personality differences
The Gift That Keeps on Giving
Often, friends and family are searching for not only exciting and fun gifts, but gifts that will last a lifetime. Premarital counseling may be most useful and important gift a couple might receive. While much time is spent planning the wedding, most couples spend little time planning their marriage. Pre-marital counseling helps achieve that balance for many couples. Research in the last few decades has shown that couples who get the information and help when they don’t need it, fare better than those who don’t.
Resolving Anger
Resolving Anger will give you new resources and skills. You will learn how to process your anger in a productive, rather than destructive, manner, and you will also learn how to identify anger triggers, how to re-assess possible threatening situations, how to utilize relaxation techniques and how to become assertive rather than aggressive.
These skills are developed through:
-Exploring effective communication skills
-Learning how to effectively deal with stress
-Practicing safe and effective ways to “win” an argument
-Taking responsibility for choices and consequences
At Crosspoint Counseling, Resolving Anger counseling is available in private individual sessions or in a small group setting.
The Resolving Anger Group meets for 1 ½ hours per week for 6 weeks.
As a Certified Anger resolution Therapist, I will share proven techniques that can help resolve your anger. If your anger is causing problems for you at home, at school, or on the job, don’t wait. Call and set up an appointment.
Parenting Program
Parenting has never been an easy process; however, today more than ever parenting is one of the most challenging and important jobs we can have! Unfortunately, most of us as parents receive little guidance and support in handling the daily emotional and behavioral challenges of parenthood. We all need skills that can strengthen our families. Three “C’s” of Effective Parenting is a unique approach to learning how to handle challenging and sometimes difficult situations we experience within our families as well as providing skills that can strengthen our families before issues develop. This 6 week program involves both the parents and the children. Parents and children attend separate meetings during the 6 week program which target different yet similar needs of the parents and children. At appropriate times the parents and children are brought together to put what they are learning into practice in meaningful ways. The content of this program centers on “Care, Consistency, and Consequences.” This unique program has been developed from over 30 years of experience in working with youth and their families, personal parenting experiences, as well as utilizing the best parenting techniques from a variety of successful parenting programs.
Parents focus on: Communication Skills The Power of Praise Setting Limits and Discipline Developing a Plan and Sticking with It | Youth focus on: Communication Skills Self Respect Decision Making Choices and Consequences |
